So I haven't been blogging in a while...I guess I should say I haven't made cakes in a while. A couple of weeks ago I had the privilege to make this baby shower cake for a sweet friend. It was definitely a fun way to stretch my creative muscles, and got me wanting to do more. Hopefully in the coming months I will have more to contribute. It was so much fun to be able to help this new set of parents celebrate the coming of their first born. I can't wait to welcome Olivia into this world!

A Girly Birthday Weekend

I had 2 birthday cakes this weekend. 2 sisters that are about a year apart both celebrated their birthdays this weekend. They wanted girly cakes with butterflies and flowers and pink and purple colors. Girly cakes are just fun to do. Here are the cakes. One was a vanilla with vanilla buttercream and the other was a strawberry cake with strawberry cream cheese frosting.

1st Birthday

It was brought to my attention yesterday that I had not posted in over a year. This is true for  many reasons, but the biggest being that I went back to school last fall. Between that and work there has been little time to make cakes. However, I have managed to make a couple, this being one of them. One of my co-workers' has a little boy that turned 1 a few weeks ago and they had a wild animal themed party. Unfortunately, this was one of the few pictures that I got of it. Other animals adorned the sides including a lion and an elephant. The cake was vanilla with vanilla buttercream, and the outside was covered in fondant. It was fun to make and enabled me to get those creative juices flowing a little. I have a couple of cakes coming up, so I'll try to get some pictures to post. Until next time!

Country Wedding

This weekend my husband and I made the trek back to Mississippi for a family wedding. The wedding reception was held in a old train depot that made for a really cool venue. It had a casual country feel, while remaining beautiful and classy. You couldn't have asked for better weather for a Mississippi wedding in May.  I was asked to do the grooms cake which made me excited since the groom and I grew up together. He is a good old country boy who enjoys hunting of all kinds. I wanted the cake to have a rustic theme that could kind of capture his love for the woods and hunting. I really struggled with this because after looking around for ideas, I realized that you could go VERY wrong with this theme. Overall though I think the cake turned out well and he was very pleased with it which told me that it was a success. The cake was the classic chocolate cake with chocolate icing since he was adamant that that was his favorite. The main decorated cake was also covered in a layer of fondant while the supplemental layers were simply covered in chocolate buttercream.

An Art Party

A friend of mine has a little girl that's turning 6. For the party they are having an artist come and show the kids how to paint a picture of a flower. Each child gets to paint their own flower, and I thought it was a pretty cute idea. The cake for the party is based off of the painting.

Sweet 16

This cake was for a 16th Birthday. I was asked to make it springy with flowers, and this is what I came up with.
